GREENSBORO -- Those looking for the best Halloween thrills and chills will find the number one "haunt" in North Carolina.
"Woods of Terror" topped Haunted Attraction Magazine's list of best haunted houses in the country. Owner Eddie McLaurin says it is all about bringing visitors' biggest nightmares to life.
"Right off the bat we try and take their composure," said McLaurin. "And it's realism. You meet the people and once you see the sets then you get lost in the realism."
Hit shows like AMC'S "Walking Dead" and "True Blood" on HBO inspire some of the creations which transport visitors into scenes from the screens.
Stephen Chandler of Woods of Terror says he is a big horror movie buff and that gives many staff members inspiration.
"If you have seen it in a horror movie, I can guarantee you that you'll find it down in the woods," said Chandler. "It gives you ideas, concepts to run with and you just always striving to make things better."
McLaurin says adding new attractions help keep the terror on top.
"Going through any haunted attraction, I think you want to give them a roller coaster ride and you know, it's highs and lows," said McLaurin.
The one hour show has 100 actors and is a complete sensory experience.
"We have to set ourselves apart, and it's great to get a national ranking. But once the people get here, you have to back-up the ranking," said McLaurin.
Haunted attractions in New Orleans, Los Angeles and New York City were also in the top five ranking of the magazine's list.
