RALEIGH—A crash involving an Amtrak train and a truck leaves a woman dead.

The train and truck collided on the tracks off of Hoke Street and Hammond Road south of downtown Raleigh. The incident happened shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities say Lynette Renee Fowler, 42, of Fuquay-Varina was killed.

"We came out and saw a car going toward a train and then we saw the car disappear and the train went by and we seen the crash,” said wittness Erskin Walker.

The men say they ran to help Fowler but there was nothing they could do for her. Amtrak officials say the train was traveling from New York to Charlotte. All 168 passengers as well as the crew members are okay. Investigators are working to determine exactly what happened.
