GREENSBORO — Ladies with the Greensboro Roller Derby hosted teams from all over the state Saturday night for a double-header and skated for a good cause as well.
The first two teams, the Mad Dollies and the Elm Street Nightmares, went head to head. In the second bout, the derby's all-star team, the Gate City Rollergirls, went head-to-head with Cape Fear roller girls' Black Harrts.
Organizers said the sport is quickly gaining popularity.
"It's a great way to meet a lot of women who do a lot of different things in the community. As far as the team goes, we have teachers, students, nurses," said Betty Rumble of the Mad Dollies.
A portion of the evening's proceeds benefited Lungs for Lee, a charity that helps a Greensboro family raise funds to help with a lung transplant.
